Squalane
Extracted from olive oil
INCI: SQUALANE
From Sustainable Source
Squalane is a stabilized version of squalene, a molecule found in the skin's sebum.
Skin care companies mainly use synthetic squalane or squalane extracted from shark's liver.
Neither is a sustainable source, and has been a key reason for the dramatic fall in the world's shark population.
We use squalane extracted from olive oil.
Human sebum also contains 13% squalene as one of its major constituents, where it works as potent antioxidant and skin emollient.
Several studies have shown certain bioactivities for squalene and squalane. In vitro and in vivo experiments on squalane have reported its anticancer, antioxidant, drug carrier, detoxifier, skin hydrating, and emollient activities.
According to recent studies, squalene and squalane are considered important substances that have both practical and clinical uses and vast potential in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries.
