Gamma oryzanol

Oryza sativa L.

INCI: GAMMA ORYZANOL

How it works:

Gamma oryzanol is a powder of ferulic acid, esterified phytosterols (including triterpenes, campesterol, stigmasterol, and β-sitosterol) from the germination, and bran oil of Oryza sativa L.

Plants use gamma oryzanol as a form of self-protection against light and heat-induced oxidation.

Gamma oryzanol has a pronounced natural UVA and UVB absorption capacity, making it an ideal additive for natural cosmetic sunscreens, in which it supplements physical filters.

This so-called secondary protection cannot be summarized in a specific SPF but is based on the reduction of light-induced degenerative damage to elastin and collagen fibers.

It acts as an antioxidant, preferably in combinations with tocopherol and ascorbyl palmitate.

Ferulic acid inhibits the formation of oxygen radicals produced by oxidative stress and thus reduces the pro-inflammatory effect of various mediators (messengers).
