Why We Use Airless Technology For Most of Our Containers?
Because this is the only real solution for natural skin care. Actually, for any skin care.
MOST OF OUR PRODUCTS ARE PACKED IN AN AIRLESS PACKAGE, SO THEY NEVER GET IN CONTACT WITH OXYGEN AND OUTSIDE POLLUTANTS. THIS WAY WE CAN USE THE FEWEST PRESERVATIVES POSSIBLE IN OUR FORMULAE AND KEEP THE PRODUCTS FRESH AND SAFE FOR A LONG TIME.
WE ARE FOCUSED ON ENSURING THAT OUR PRODUCTS ARE PROTECTED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE, WITH AS LITTLE ECOLOGICAL DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT AS A RESULT.
Airless technology uses a piston and vacuum to dispose of the product. When you press the pump, the cylinder at the base of the bottle pushes the content out of the nozzle. This way, no air comes in contact with the remaining product.
This is extremely important for the concentrated formula in NOAGE skincare products. Oxygen and UV light are the most damaging for natural actives, which is because of their bio-activity and they are especially prone to oxidation. The airless system protects the formula perfectly. This way, we can use the fewest number of non-toxic natural preservatives and still get a stable and safe product.
The only reason that the skincare industry still uses jars is because of price. Airless technology is much more expensive than jars because much more demanding technology is used to produce airless containers.
BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION
Jars are also prone to bacterial contamination. Most people use their fingers to apply cream from jars. There is no safe preservative system on the market that will protect against repeat contamination from fingers.
Bacterial contamination is a known trigger for irritation, inflammation, and acne. This is especially the case for people with atopic dermatitis or eczema, who must be extra careful with staph infections - a known trigger for this condition.
WHY WE DON'T USE GLASS?
There are no real glass airless containers. Period.
There are solutions which look like that, but in reality there is a hidden plastic bag inside the glass bottle, which contracts because of the vacuum effect.
This is even worse than plastic airless tech because you mix plastic and glass, which makes recycling impossible. Besides this, glass needs a lot of energy to produce, is heavy and uses a lot of energy to transport. A large series of products are required for production. We therefore selected transparent PET plastic for our 09_DUAL-PHASE MAKEUP REMOVER, which is the simplest plastic to recycle, needs little energy for transport and is widely available. With the right recycle technology, it is possible to recycle it back to clear PET, and you can repeat this process several times over.
Owing to the specific demands of mail delivery, we use sealed mylar-aluminum pouches, which protect our products against exposure to pollutants and oxygen during storage and transport. Aluminum foil is also the best gas barrier in packaging.
Currently, we are looking into a replacement for a mylar-aluminum foil with biodegradable plastic. The current situation is that these materials are about 4x more expensive, and the minimum order quantity is between 2 and 5 metric tons. As you can imagine that’s a lot of bags for a startup brand. At this point, it is financially impossible for us to buy so many pouches in advance.
These foils are biodegradable, but only in particular circumstances. They basically need a compost pit. If they are disposed of improperly, they contaminate the recycling process of other plastics because they look almost the same.
At this stage, these materials are just as problematic as our current solution, so the best way to safely disposes of them is in marked containers. Some countries already have an option for recycling alu-plastic materials, and new, cheaper technologies for this purpose are on the horizon.
We are continually searching for a cleaner solution and will frequently update our customers about progress made in this regard.
